An aedicule is a small architectural frame, often shaped like a miniature temple. This proposal for Walsh Family Hall combines that frame with a central mural and trompe-l’œil: painted architecture that creates an illusion of depth.
The study brings symbols of art and architecture into one composition. Compare the preliminary sketches with the final watercolor to see how the frame, figures and central scene developed. It remained an academic design, not a constructed campus addition.

A frame for a painted space
Begin with the final watercolor, then compare the development drawings. The small architectural frame supports an illusion of deeper space within the mural.
